Black life superheroes ( BLSH ) are part of the broader, media-labeled real life superhero ( RLSH ) movement while also being apart from it in some instances.  

Civil rights activists who faced down state-sponsored terror from the first captive African who rebeled on these shores to epic change agents in the mid-10th Century are all BLSH.

Unlike our great peers who commute into our unsafe, need overrun inner city, Black life superheroes either come from these desperate places or have family still imprisoned within them.

BLSH isn’t about separatism- it’s about defending your community alone and alongside any good person who comes to help!

If urban crime could create the great fictional Batman the real life inner city should be over run with caped crusaders???!!!

Black life superheroes ( BLSH ) are the community caped/cape-less crusaders Black America has been waiting for to save the inner city from within!

We have no other choice.

Famous BLSH of our era include Martin Luther King; Malcolm X; Rosa Parks; Nelson Mandela; Clarence Thomas, etc.

Notable BLSH you may not readily know include:


James Farmer, whose 1966 March Against Fear
is something every creative activist should
know. 

Fannie Lou Hamer, whose Mississippi
Freedom Democratic Party pushed voting
rights under threat of death.

IS THIS GUY PRETENDING TO BE CRAZY TO AVOID LIFE IN AN UNCOMFORTABLE PRISON OR A POSSIBLE DEATH SENTENCE?
I strongly suspect he methodically planned an insanity defense for the cold blooded mass murder/temper tantrum he meticulously executed.
I strongly suspect the diary he wrote along with dyed hair and vacant court room stare are designed to exempt him from the consequences of his actions.
He’s a typical American entitlement criminal who hurts others because he’s mad over his lot in life- but doesn’t want punishment.
Holmes is playing on anticipated liberal sensibilities in psychiatry; the jury pool and the bench to escape punishment for what he did.
Don’t be fooled folks!
Before elevating him to dean of the real life super criminal set let’s make sure he’s really crazy first.
He’s definitely blood thirsty and doesn’t value human life outside his own- hence his peaceful surrender to police.

I will call 911 on you on the low to preserve discreet information gathering or directly act if the situation is too hot to wait for police to arrive.

This is the new Black male citizenship paradigm I  ( and others ) practice and promote. It’s the antidote to thug addiction intravenouslypumped into brothers minds by adults and (un) popular culture. I know jails are overcrowded but so are morgues with chocolate klansmen’s only gift tot he community!

My contribution to our embattled community is a brother they can trust to advise them on safety and the long hard grind called seeking success without being a criminal.

When it comes to glacial police/community relations here in New Orleans and nationally the logical question is, ”  can brothers who are against crime help NOPD? “

Hmmm?

” Yes ” in theory.

” Maybe ” in application.

Black men commit most of our street crime.  Reasonable observers would gather that uniting police and Black men opposing street crime is a no-brainer.

Not quite.

I have relationships with officers as do other anti crime brothers. Such scattered informal associations aside there is no formal coalition specifically uniting Black men with the police ( my Brothers & Badges Together model comes to mind, hint hint lol ). http://moveonup.ning.com/profiles/blogs/brothers-badges-together 

Again, most New Orleans street crime is a majority Black male affair. Getting Black men and cops on the same team isn’t a ” racist ” response- it’s realist.

Either we as a society see Black men as more than suspects ( unless employed by law enforcement agencies, etc ) or we don’t.

Keeping anti crime brothers at arms length makes them wonder if liberal accusations about police being eternally biased are true?

I’d like to see Black male/police relations evolve to resemble a real world version of what Adam West’s Batman enjoyed on his famed TV show.

It’s a looong shot but worth the work I and others in this chocolate Klansmen era are making because there is no other decent choice!

All we have is the public safety miracle of all time waiting in the wings if we pull this off!

America needs boring good guys and gals  (  ” happy warriors ” ) who preach civic duty; good citizenship and other equally boring topics as cultural counter balance to exciting messengers promoting ever-more self indulgent; destructive behavior.
Comic book fiction is replete with creative solid citizen types who advocated this boring message while facing down a mind-numbing array of opponents doing the opposite.
Adam West Batman was my generation’s prime spokesman for creative support of good citizenship.


Long before the grim ” Dark Knight ” depiction became vogue Batman was an exceptional good guy who could have been a Kiwanis club or American Legion member in disguise.
Life is harsh and we shouldn’t sugar coat it to children or ourselves.
But we do need happy warriors to remind us that there is something to be happy about even as headlines and personal challenges argue otherwise.
Happy warriors like the late Jack Kemp come to mind whose famously inclusive vision of conservatism wowed friend and foe alike.

Or Wally ” Famous ” Amos who made a fortune off chocolate chip cookies only to have his brand name and wealth taken from him. Through it, he never
stopped smiling or encouraging others to do the same.

Comedian/philanthropist Bill Cosby occupies a special place as a happy warrior who doesn’t use profanity and whose demand that Black folks do better is said with malice but with the same love which has animated his career.

The final happy warrior is a friend who calls himself the Silver Sentinel. Selfless to a fault even his super hero activist name resulted

from helping someone, in this instance his child by giving her a hero all her own.  He’s always on call for others.

Jarell Brooks, Dark Knight Movie Massacre Hero

God bless this 19 year old real life hero for saving the lives of a mother and her two children- one of whom is a four month old infant, from James Holmes rampage.
Did I mention young Mr. Brooks did more than her boyfriend, who promptly fled when shooting started???
Young Black men get alot of bad press. While quick to denounce chocolate Klansmen I also quickly recognize young brothers who show the world how we ( and any decent person ) should act.
While pushing Ms. Patricia Legarreta and her children to safety, effectively shielding them with his body, they were both regrettably shot. Hopping on one leg our young hero’s only thoughts were, “ I have to get this family out, without getting hit myself. I managed to do one” he told ABC News.
Real life heroism.
All young Black men aren’t cowards or criminals.
Many of them do great deeds like Jarell Brooks but are overshadowed by peers hell bent on destroying everyone around them.
Pundits say the Dark knight wasn’t there to save the day. I respectfully disagree.
Young Jarell Brooks and other real life ” dark knights ” rose to the occasion- getting wounded or even killed to protect others- just like the fictional superhero they gathered to watch on the big screen.
Congratulations young brother!
