How to Describe a Suspect To The Police

How to Describe a Suspect To The Police

To capture a criminal in these highly mobile times, it is of utmost importance for the police to promptly obtain an accurate description. Following are some of the most important identifiers the police need to apprehend criminal suspects. Keep this information in mind so that you can give the police an accurate description of any criminal or criminal incident you may observe.
Location information is critical:
Observe where you are and the exact location of the crime. Try to remember if you have ever seen the suspect in the area before.
Note the time as precisely as possible.
Observe if the suspect is carrying a weapon and, if so, what type-revolver, handgun, shotgun, knife, etc.
If the suspect leaves the scene, note the direction of flight.
If the suspect is in a vehicle, note as much of the following information as possible: vehicle type (auto, truck, van, etc.); color; make and model; condition (dirty, damaged, etc.); and license plate numbers.
Note also if the vehicle has no license plates or a “license applied for” sticker in the rear windshield.
Watch for decoys or accomplices.

a variety of general description information about the suspect should be noted:
Sex
Race or national origin
Age (estimated)
Height-use comparisons with your own height, a door, or some other standard measure
Weight (estimated)
Build-fat, husky, slim, muscular, etc.

Facial information is also important:
Hair-note the color, texture, hairline, style; also possible dyes or wigs
Forehead-note forehead height, and whether the skin is smooth, creased or wrinkled
Eyes-note the color, shape (round, slanted), whether clear or bloodshot, and the heaviness of eyelashes and eyebrows
Nose-overall shape (long, wide, flat, etc.) and nostrils (wide, narrow, flared) are important
Cheeks-is the flesh sunken, filled out, dried or oily? are there wrinkles around nose or mouth? are cheek bones high or low, wide or narrow?
Ears-note size and prominence (protruding or flat against head)
Mouth-are lips thin, medium, full? do corners turn up, turn down, or level?
Chin-what is the shape (round, oval, pointed, square)? double chin, dimpled, cleft?
Neck-note protruding Adam’s apple or hanging jowls
Complexion-note pores, pockmarks, acne, razor rash, bumps
Facial hair-clean shaven? unshaven? beard, mustache, goatee, sideburns?
Tattoos-shape and style; on what part of the body

Clothing information is also very important:
Hat-note color, style, ornaments, how it is worn (bill forward, backward, to one side)
Coat-note color and style (suit coat, jacket, topcoat, overcoat)
Shirt/Blouse/Dress-note color, design, sleeves, collar
Trousers/Slacks/Skirt-note color, style, cuffs
Socks-note color, pattern, length
Shoes-note color, style, brand name for sneakers (if possible), condition
Accessories-sweater, scarf, gloves, necktie
Jewelry-rings, watches, bracelets, necklaces
General appearance-neat or sloppy? clean or dirty?
Oddities-look for clothing too large or too small; odd colors; patchwork

Look for other physical features or peculiarities:
Voice-pitch, tone, rasp, lisp
Speech-articulate, uneducated, accent, use of slang
Gait-slow, fast, limp
You will never be able to remember all of these details about any one suspect you may see. But remembering as many as possible can be particularly helpful to the police and to your community.

Post anything you like here, building a wiki specifically made by heroes/superheroes, for heroes/superheroes.

I think the first order of business should be everyone post themselves.

Welcome to the site

This is the birth of the first website of the Super League of Superheroes! We, as the SLS, decided that this new global community that some have taken to call the “Internets” has grown to a point where there are people that need protection! Thus, SuperLeagueofSuperheroes.com spawns as a home for those that need protection, idealize Real Life Superheroes such as myself and Squeegeeman, or just like our flashy costumes!
It is also a place that Superheroes can congregate, strategize against villainy, or participate in the union meetings. Check out the FORUM link on the side for more opportunities to network with Heroes and common citizens alike!
You also might want to check out the interview with Squeegeeman from TIMEOUT NY magazine. Squeegeeman, as well as fellow Superheroes Tothian and Dark Guardian were followed by a reporter and photographer on their patrol. The magazine is supposed to hit shelves Wednesday, September 27th. Get yourselves a copy! I’m off on my patrol, so GOOD DAY CITIZENS!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!

My Evolution

I myself am finding less and less “need” to work in my costume, even as dangerous as it can be to do what I do. For one thing, I don’t drive. Therefore looking inconspicuous comes in handy more often than not when gettin to the site. For more “high profile” fuzzy wuzzy occasions (I almost threw up when I typed that.) I have devised a secondary mask that’s a little more colorful; pics comin soon. One more of many to come >:D

Non "MySpace" Communications

Tothian and many other RLS are stepping up to try and help with more sophisticated communication tools and I think this is great.  I have some expereince with this and see this as a growing interest in the community.  Be that as it is, I’d like everyone interested in this to ask themselves two things.  One, who in the rls community has experience running boards or websites like this?  And two, if we are suffering from lack of experience in this, would we want some seasoned guidance?
If ‘no one’ and ‘yes’ are the overall answers to the questions above, please take the initiative and contact me.  I can and will help get something ‘real’ going.  Blitz, Tothian and others are are scrambling to make a difference here and I have some unique experience that can contribute.
Its important to say, I’m not trying to create another brand of something others have been working on.  If I could caution everyone on one thing and one thing only, it would be running off in different directions.  The last thing we need is everyone proposing something new.  I’m trying to help unify the many people who see a need.  Hopefully, a combined effort will lead us to a quality platform and a connected community.
Why even create a tool?  Don’t we have MySpace and Frappr?  First, I feel its important to create a virtual Hall of Superheroes where we control access.  I want someone (or a council of someones) to have some control over who gets to read what.  Forums are great for this as are rl chat systems like TeamSpeak.  I believe this would lead to better communication and better trust over allowing us to put things out there and ask for help without feeling like we are being watched or monitored.  If this was not already obvious, I’m sure there are least a few law enforcement folks watching the super hero movement on MySpace.
Like Tothian, I’m not so much concerned about leading this effort as much as contributing.  I can offer my significant experience in this and hopefully that can make a difference.  My experience?  I led one of the top City of Heroes portals for over a year (forums, roster, news, live chat, all that junk) and, as my secret identity, I have created and managed a business website that maintains a forum (for three years) as well as host and present at conferences (7 years).
So if you would like, coordinate through me, or if there is a solid movement, I’ll give input if invited.  I’ll gladly do whatever I can to get something ‘quality’ up and and running if this is something people want to see.
I realize not everyone in our community is a team player (and thats just fine).  We do need to unite on this, however, and get behind a process that has us coming together – not leading off in different directions.

Vigilante? Nah.

I don’t take Law Enforcement into MY OWN HANDS, as far as bein “judge, jury, and executioner”. I just do what I can do. Therefore I ain’t sure if I really fit the dictionary definition of “Vigilante”. I think that’s more of the Guardian Angel’s category.
In the past I have fit that definition, but my new code is “stickin to the books” as much as possible. Therefore how am I a vig?
Besides fighting in self-defense almost a month ago, I haven’t “laid hands” on any “perps” whatsoever.

Orange County Postal Stalker Update

Update on the Orange County Postal Stalker.
I’m closing the case from my side. They have my suggestions and are taking back up the fight. Apperantly they had just given up and were fine with receiving stalker mail for the rest of their lives. But they were encouraged to start anew. Here is a portion of the email she sent back. To understand it more thoroughly, I was dealing through a friend of the victim.

Thank you for your help. I relayed your information to my friend who realized that she was settling for complacency because it has been so long. She is intending to use the letter you sent once she is more certain of who is targeting her. Her and her husband are more active now into taking it to higher sources to get this resolved.
So, thank you very much for your help. The insight has helped her refocus on stopping this person rather than accepting this to be her life now.
Much gratitude,
Lisa

Superhero Crash Rescue

CRASH RESCUE
From Superhero
Me and my Girl went to see Psycho Beach Party in St Pete. Halarious check it out, but anyway as we come off the 275 overpass into Clearwater and there’s a car off the road, and UPSIDE DOWN in the drainage ditch!
One other guy has stopped, and he’s standing next to the victim, a young girl who’s like 25 feet away from the wreck and up on the bank! (huh?)
she’s sitting up and I yell “Is there anybod else in the car?” just as she flop’s flat on her back, I yell to the other stopper to call 911 and jump into the ditch with a splash, and sink up to my ankles in the mud. I yell to the girl one more time “is there anybody else in the car?” no answer the car is halfway emersed in the muck , I fumble around until I find the door handle & it pops, but being in the muck, it don’t budge. All I can think about is somebody hanging upside down from there seat belt head first in the water, or worse a kid in a baby seat. Now, I’m a 215 pound knuckle dragger, I like to powerlift, not bodybuild, but still, don’t ask how I ripped that door open, it just happend.
It’s pitch black in the car and I yell “FLASHLIGHT!” just as some new guy from the bank tosses me one! (great timing!) and I’m down in the car. Nothing, no kid, no adult, nothing. Thank God, now I can concentrate on the victim. Like I said this girl was at least 25 feet from the car, a nurse pulled over (Even better timing) and all this kid had was a broken forearm!
Some other new girl crouching with me says “Girl you have been saved for a reason!” stands right the @$ up and starts PRAYING aloud to Jesus thanking him for this girls life!!! I look down on her holding her head to keep her from moving it and say “I can’t argue with the prayer kid, this is some kinda miracle! I don’t have a clue how you ended all the way up here!” The Fire dept. arrived, she could move everything (Except her fore arm) they boarded her and took off.
Every body at the scene tells me what a great job I did, which they did just as good a job as me. And I took of home to get the muck outta my nice shoes.
The fact that I saw a situation and acted instead of reacted gave me my omph back.
