NEIL ARMSTRONG; RIP & WARP SPEED!

I was three when I watched him walk down that ladder and make fiction fact.
It didn’t matter that he was a distant White man with NASA and I was a Black school teacher’s kid in a Southern town weaned on science fiction and adventure stories.
Armstrong wasn’t a ” White ” man as I recall the hush that befell Black America. He was ” Our ” man, a fellow American who did something that showed friend and foe alike in this country that impossible needed to be re-defined.
In 1969 America had alot dividing it but on that day we briefly put differences aside to marvel at what one of our own had accomplished.
We sorely need unifying moments like this now.
Warp speed Bro Armstrong!

Superheroes Anonymous LogoOriginally posted: http://plancast.com/p/7nxk/superheroes-anonymous-year-five-new-york-city
Five years ago, Superheroes Anonymous launched the first large scale meeting of Real Life Superheroes. Since then we’ve been able to help over 5,000 homeless people, do missions all over the world including hospital visitations, public safety patrols, workshops and we have been featured in over 200 publications (such as NYT, CNN, FOX, BBC, 60 Minutes) from over 45 countries with a message of inspiration and empowerment.Following the launch of our first event, we visited New Orleans and rebuilt with Habitat for Humanity where Mayor Nagin declared it “The Day of the Superheroes,” in New Bedford, MA we had a benefit concert for a homeless shelter and lifesaving and self-defense courses and last year in Portland we Raced for the Cure against breast cancer and gave blood with the Oregon Red Cross.
This year, we’re giving back to the city where it all started: New York. We are holding a giant event during the weekend of October 28-30th that will incorporate the best of of the charitable, fun and community-outreach programs that we have been involved with in the years past.
About Year Five

Superheroes roam New York’s streets

By Nadine Bells
Real-life crime fighters are gaining quite the reputation on the streets of New York City.
They’ve inspired a documentary and a book. The NY Press featured them as a cover story. And now the BBC has spent a night on the streets with the masked avengers.
Like Batman before them, the New York Initiative patrols Gotham’s streets late at night, keeping an eye on “the notorious South Bronx projects, looking for troublemakers and their victims.”
Their presence, they claim, deters public drug deals in the area:
“They’ll see us and take off running,” Samaritan Prime, the alter-ego of an otherwise anonymous New Yorker, told the BBC. “They go to the dark corners that all insects retreat to.”
The masked group — likening itself to “a community block watch or safety patrol” — has patrolled the West Village for muggers, and last year vowed to protect sex workers from the Long Island Serial Killer.
Nitro, Shortcut, Zero, Samaritan Prime and Battlestar are a few of the heroes comprising The New York Initiative (NYI), a splinter group in the worldwide Real Life Superheroes (RLSHs) movement.
The NYI wields weapons — legal and creative ones, such as mouth organs and metal torches — but insists that violence is a last resort, used to protect the innocent.
“I don’t do this to punish the wicked but to protect their victims,” Deaths Head Moth says. “But some people just don’t take kindly to being politely asked to stop what they’re doing.”
Authorities aren’t on-board with civilians taking crime-fighting into their own hands. But Zero criticizes the police’s lack of support, pointing out that cops “don’t show up” when they’re needed most.
Zero has been outspoken on his dislike of the word “superhero,” preferring instead the term “X-ALT,” referring to the personality type known as “extreme altruism.”
A study on the psychopathy of heroism says that “X-altruists are compelled to good, even when doing so makes no sense and brings harm upon them.”
Samaritan Prime also shrugs off any perceived self-importance:
“I’m just a guy in a suit,” he says. “But I’m trying to do what we should all do, which is make life better for everyone.”

Senate, No. 2871 — L.1985, c. 360
Senate Bill No. 2781, as amended by the Senate Law, Public Safety and Defense Committee, prohibits as a crime of the fourth degree the possession of a stun gun by any person, including a law enforcement officer. A crime of the fourth degree carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to 18 months, a fine of up to $7,500, or both. Prior to being amended the bill classified possession of a crime in the third degree. {Editor’s Note: According to Len Lawson of NJ Legislative Council, (609) 292-4625) NJ does not classify crimes in felonies versus misdemeanors. The highest crimes are in first degree on down to fourth degree. A fourth degree penalty is a serious charge and is generally considered a misdemeanor in common terms. It is however an indicTABLE offense. A fourth degree crime does contain “a presumption of non-custodial sentencing,” meaning that there is not imprisonment if there are no prior convictions. In some cases the sentencing is obviated from one’s record if there is a period of good behavior following the charge.}
The committee amended the bill to include a provision authorizing the Attorney General, at his discretion, to exempt law enforcement officers from the prohibition against possession stun guns.
The bill also was amended by the committee to include stun guns in the definition of “weapon” in paragraph r. N.J.S. 2C:39-1.

'Superhero'; takes on clampers

Angle-grinder Man – a self-proclaimed superhero – patrols by night looking for unhappy drivers who have been clamped and then sets their cars free.

He promises to take on clamping firms, speed cameras and the congestion charge on behalf of drivers.
An odd-job man by day, he claims to operate in Kent during the week and in London at weekends.
A hotline number on his website offers a free wheel clamp removal service.

I for one am prepared to fight for what is fair and am making myself available to the public
Angle-grinder Man

On calling, an answer phone message invites callers to “leave a message after the grinding sound”.
The unnamed man, who wears a costume of gold boots and crotch-hugging pants over a blue leotard, said he was happy to take the risk.
“It’s a public service,” he says on his website.
“I for one am prepared to fight for what is fair and am making myself available to the public.
‘Deeper malaise’
“I may not be able to single-handedly and totally cast off the repressive shackles of a corrupt government – but I can cut off your wheel-clamps for you.”
He says he decided to go “full-time vigilante” in May this year.
“My obsession with wheel-clamping is actually a rebellion against a much deeper malaise,” he said.
“Namely, the arrogant contempt that politicians hold for the people who put them into power, and whom they claim to represent.”
A Kent Police spokeswoman said no complaint about wheel clamps being cut off had been made by either a clamping firm or a member of the public.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said they could not investigate unless a crime was reported.
