America: Super Hero Nation
Imagine a super-smart; super strong every man; war hero; former police commissioner; who topped it all off by becoming president of the United States!!

I am greatful for his good works, but I do not see him as being a good rolemodel or a symbol of what we should/can all be. It’s a little known fact that Teddy was in fact a severe bigot. Like I said though, I do commend him on his works (because I personally am very concerned about the environment and consider myself a save the earth hippie type) but I respectfully agree to disagree with your opinion on this particular topic.

“He ( Theodore Roosevelt ) did not truly believe that blacks were the equals of whites, or that they could be integrated into the American social fabric. He generally accepted the prevailing idea that all nonwhites were less capable of self-rule and significant advancement in culture and science in comparison to whites. He agreed with and enthusiastically endorsed the notion that nonwhites entailed little more than a “burden” which the white races of the world must carry as part of their Christian duty. This sense of racial superiority tainted his attitudes toward blacks…”
Proves my point about his views being consistent with those of his time- the “White Man’s Burden” model favored by progressives of his day- which he was. .
So what am to do?
Hate all Whites because of past racist norms; not to mention the ones I battled in my home town?
I’m an American Black who knows just how tortured our history is pertaining to race.
I can either hate all White people because of it or extract whatever good can be found from those times.
The fact that we’ve progressed far beyond those days argues in favor of America; her values and yes, even the flawed men who governed her.
Thank you for the information.
@Hero Boy:
There would be few men of President Roosevelt’s ethnicity & class free from bias. By that standard, I as a Black man would have to dismiss most of history’s great Americans from the past for slave ownership or possession of racist views.
Whatever his real feelings ( which I hope you’ll document ), he did accept counsel on race matters from Booker T Washington, the leading Black spokesman of that era.
They dined in the White House, with the president’s family at the table, dangerous breaches of American apartheid etiquette that touched off a national frenzy of criticism.
Racism for that time was as American as apple pie. As a Black man I can either find what good existed in those time periods or hate America.
I choose to find the good and love America while acknowledging the bad in her heritage.
Very well said sir, I too agree; tis much better to take what we can from the good while also learning from past mistakes. 🙂
I’m personally Native American (Choctaw Indian), and I’ve gotten a lot of shit from people calling me a “savage” or criticising me because I appear to be stuck in the “stone ages” sometimes because I was raised to depend on me and only me when things get tough. Living in Alaska and eventually being exposed to the outside world has helped me achieve a sound foundation for me to build upon with what I already know, but yeah, I’m deeply spiritual as well (I think it runs in the family; there’s some trippy stuff about our heritage that I’ve experienced myself then later found out to be a Choctaw tradition/ritual type thing, markedly the Great White Buffalo in my dreams, the one who comes and guides me when I need guiding, which has appeared to others of in my tribe as well), but I feel pretty strongly about Rascism and most vices in general, they feel almost sickening/hurtful to me and it makes me sad a lot, this though I’ve learned to channel into more constructive outlets and it now gives me unwavering strength and determination; most markedly an inner strength.
I personally can’t think of an epitome of a rolemodel as very few can fully live up to the term without flaws, but if I had to pick one it would probably be Ghandi or the Dhali Lama, or Jesus, or Buhdda or whatever and then Ronald Reagan haha XD
Anyway, yeah, well said, I was concerned perhaps you weren’t aware of TRs rasist qaulities, and that you may be offended but I was sure to say as politely as possible (hard to not sound like a dick when talking about rascism and world leaders in the same topic haha) so yeah…very well said haha 🙂
